GIC Brasil’s Sustainability Director, Stefania Fernandes, will take part as a speaker at GS1’s Brazil in Code event, on the Tech Future stage. The event is one of the country’s main innovation and technology festivals, which addresses the main trends in retail and automation. The executive’s presentation will deal with one of today’s main issues in all sectors of the economy and in retail in particular, ESG (corporate and social governance). “We’re going to show some of the results of the most recent survey we carried out among the country’s largest supermarket and wholesale chains. All of them are concerned about the direction sustainability is taking and are paying attention to the ESG criteria, each in their own way. It’s part of our commitment to support our partners and learn from them along the way,” says the executive, who until last year was Marketing Director for the innovation and transformation company. At last year’s event, Brazil in Code brought together more than 1,200 participants, 30 exhibitors and 40 national and international speakers. The experts shared learnings, real stories, practical knowledge and cases on innovation, technology, logistics and automation in four verticals, explains GS1 Brasil: Industry, Retail, Marketplaces and ESG+Tech. GS1 Brasil is a multi-sector organization that develops and maintains “global standards for efficient business communication, collaborating in the process of automating supply chains, from the raw material to the end consumer”. The survey recently carried out with CEOs, presidents, directors and other executives from the retail sector in Brazil revealed that the RUB system of automated management plays a significant role in protecting the environment. In addition, it is recognized by the chains as an effective contribution to ESG best practices in Brazilian retail.

The retailers surveyed highlighted the economic and financial benefits brought by RUB, especially in terms of governance.

The importance of sustainability and the ESG standard in food retail has been studied by companies and experts. This is because the criteria of this standard promote environmental responsibility, address consumer concerns, improve operational efficiency, build brand value and reputation, and comply with regulations and the demand for sustainable investments. ESG jargon and the term sustainability speak of concern for the planet. In this context, one of GIC Brasil’s external actions defined its support for the Sustainable Periphery project, developed by the Favela da Paz Institute. The initiative aims to develop low-cost sustainable technologies in communities and stimulate important behavioral skills in municipal schools, such as creativity, communication, persistence and collaboration. GIC Brasil believes in the social role of private enterprise and is proud to support these initiatives.
