The results of the 1st GIC Sustainability Survey reveal that the RUB automated management system plays a significant role in protecting the environment. The study also shows that customers of the company, based in Alphaville (SP), continuously and effectively recognize the system’s contributions to ESG (Social and Environmental Governance) best practices in Brazilian retail. “We knew that RUB was aligned with ESG values, but we planned to carry out the survey precisely so that we would have facts and data to prove the environmental, social and governance impact on retail store operations. All those interviewed said that they had been positively affected, taking ESG values into account,” says GIC Brasil’s Sustainability Director, Stefania Fernandes. Carried out in April this year, the survey was attended by more than two thirds of RUB users in Brazil, including CEOs, presidents, directors and other executives from large and medium-sized companies in the retail sector. In the next stage, executives from the company’s clients abroad will also be heard, notably in Colombia, Panama and Angola. Almost four-fifths (79%) of the retailers surveyed confirmed the contributions made through product presence audits, expiry date control and stock management, resulting in a reduction in waste and stock-outs in stores. In addition, they highlighted that the economic and financial gains provided by RUB are directly related to the governance aspect (the “G” of ESG), allowing for more assertive and effective operational controls and actions. Sustainability and the ESG standard are crucial for food retailers, mainly because of the following criteria: environmental responsibility, meeting consumer concerns on the subject, promoting operational efficiency, building brand value and reputation in the market, and aligning with regulatory pressure and the demand for sustainable investments. “These practices bring economic, environmental and social benefits, which include reducing environmental impact, attracting and retaining conscientious customers and optimizing resources,” she adds. She anticipates the area’s next steps, based on the results of the first sustainability survey. “We’re going to get closer to our customers to understand how we can improve our tools to make them more modern and sustainable, reduce food waste and have a positive impact on the lives of employees and consumers, all while increasing the profitability of the business,” says Stefania. The survey was developed in partnership with the Connect Shopper consultancy. Fátima Merlin, CEO of Connect Shopper, points out that the retailers surveyed recognize RUB as “an essential tool for store operations, highlighting its contribution to employee training and the acculturation of processes”.
